Lane Closure and Traffic Stoppages Planned on I-66 East Near Route 7 Next Tuesday Night

FAIRFAX – An overnight single-lane closure is planned on I-66 East between the I-495 Interchange and Exit 66 (Route 7 (Leesburg Pike)) on Tuesday, May 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Drivers should also expect intermittent 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m. as lanes are shifted to the left as part of the I-66 Eastbound Direct Access to West Falls Church Metro Project.

When the new connection opens in late 2020, drivers will be able to exit I-66 East for Route 7, stay left to connect to the ramp from Route 7 East to I-66 East, then stay right to reach Falls Church Drive and the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station. Currently, vehicles exit from I-66 East, turn right to head east on Route 7, turn left at Haycock Road, and then turn left onto Falls Church Drive.

The two existing ramps will remain open during construction, although traffic shifts and occasional overnight traffic stoppages will be required. Construction will occur during daytime and nighttime hours. Find additional information on the project webpage.
