I-66 Rosslyn Tunnel Overnight Lane Closures May 4-7
Scaffolding removal related to Lynn Street Esplanade and Custis Trail Improvements

ROSSLYN – I-66 is scheduled to have overnight lane closures at the Rosslyn Tunnel Monday night, May 4 through Thursday night, May 7 to remove scaffolding on the eastern end of the tunnel as part of the Lynn Street Esplanade and Custis Trail Improvements project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The overnight lane closures will occur between 9:30 p.m and 5 a.m. per the following schedule:

  • Westbound I-66: Monday night, May 4 and Tuesday night, May 5
  • Eastbound I-66: Wednesday night, May 6 and Thursday night, May 7

A quarter-mile of a wider Custis Trail from North Lynn Street to North Oak Street opened to bicyclists and pedestrians in August. Upgraded pedestrian signals and curb ramps have also been installed at the southbound Lee Highway intersections of North Lynn Street, Fort Myer Drive, North Nash Street and North Oak Street.

The project has also made improvements along North Lynn Street, including:

  • Wider sidewalks
  • Improved curb ramps
  • Upgraded traffic signals
  • A new bike lane
  • Decorative lighting
  • Landscaping

A public art installation by Arlington County called “Corridor of Light” will also be incorporated, with prominent elements at each of the four corners of the North Lynn Street bridge over I-66.
