VDOT News - Northern Virginia

FAIRFAX, Va. – Motorists are advised that I-395 South will be reduced to one lane tonight, Monday, March 11 until early tomorrow morning, Tuesday, March 12 between Washington Boulevard (Exit 8) and Glebe Road (Exit 7). Additionally, intermittent traffic stoppages of up to 20-30 minutes will occur between Midnight and 4 a.m. These closures are needed for crews to install an overhead sign structure as part of the I-395 Express Lanes Northern Extension Project. Work is weather dependent.

The HOV lanes on I-395 will close tonight at 8 p.m., as part of ongoing construction activities on the Express Lanes, followed by closures of the regular lanes on I-395 South beginning at 9:30 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4 a.m. Tuesday.

The sign installation work is part of the 395 Express Lanes Northern Extension Project. The 395 Express Lanes involve extending the current express lanes eight miles north to the D.C. line through a public-private partnership between the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban. The extended express lanes are scheduled to open in late 2019.
