Expect Weekend Work Along Route 7 Oct. 4-7
Overnight closures for work near Utterback Store Road and Bishopsgate Way as part of Route 7 improvements

Weather permitting, drivers can expect weekend work Oct. 4-7 for crews to construct new pavement at median cross-overs as part of the Route 7 Corridor Improvements.
During the work, median breaks on Route 7 will be closed at Utterback Store Road and Bishopsgate Way from Friday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 7 at 4 a.m.
Eastbound, drivers can expect the left lane of Route 7 to be closed from Reston Parkway to Amanda Drive:
  • Friday, Oct. 4 from 8 p.m. to Saturday, Oct. 5 at 8 a.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 5 from 8 p.m. to Sunday, Oct. 6 at 9 a.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 6 from 7 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 7 at 4 a.m.
Westbound, drivers can expect the left lane of Route 7 to be closed from Amanda Drive to Reston Parkway:
  • Friday, Oct. 4 from 10 p.m. to Saturday, Oct. 5 at 9 a.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 5 from 7 p.m. to Sunday, Oct. 6 at 9 a.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 6 from 8 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 7 at 5 a.m.
Please allow extra travel time through the area during this period.
There will also be median and turn lane closures near Utterback Store Road and Bishopgate Way as part of this work. Click here for full details of work by location as well as maps for alternate routes where needed.
Utterback Store Road (click for map of detours)
  • The Route 7 median will be closed; drivers can turn right-in/right-out.
  • Traffic from eastbound Route 7 to Utterback Store Road may turn left onto eastbound Georgetown Pike, then right onto southbound Utterback Store Road, or continue east on Route 7 to U-turn at Baron Cameron Avenue/Springvale back to Utterback Store Road.
  • Traffic from southbound Utterback Store Road to eastbound Route 7 may turn right onto westbound Route 7 and U-turn at Reston Parkway.
  • Pedestrian access across Route 7 at Utterback Store Road will be closed.
  • The median cross-over is expected to reopen by 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7.
  • The Route 7 median will be closed; drivers can turn right-in/right-out.
  • Traffic from northbound Bishopsgate Way to westbound Route 7 may go east on Route 7 and U-turn at Baron Cameron Avenue/Springvale Road.
  • Traffic from westbound Route 7 to southbound Bishopsgate Way may continue to Reston Parkway to U-turn and return east to Bishopsgate Way.
  • The median cross-over is expected to reopen by 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7.
Please note that the speed limit along Route 7 has been reduced to 45 miles per hour in active work zones between Reston Avenue and Delta Glen Court.
Please use caution and be alert to signs, as well as potential flagger or police direction in work zones. Slow-moving vehicles and equipment may be entering and exiting the road.
Along about seven miles of Route 7, the Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project is adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making other intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.
