VDOT News - Northern Virginia

FAIRFAX—Even as conditions improve, drivers are asked to remain cautious this evening as sleet and freezing rain continue through the region. Crews continue to plow and treat roads, but with mixed precipitation and temperatures close to freezing, roads may become slick.

What's Happening Now

• See the Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service in effect for some areas of northern Virginia until 10 p.m., with sleet and freezing rain continuing this evening.
  
  
• Interstates and primary routes are clear and wet. Plows are also working to make at least one pass on each of the 16,000 neighborhood streets in northern Virginia.
  
  
• Crews will work overnight to finish plowing slush and snow and to treat all roads as needed.

VDOT Asks Drivers and Residents To:

• Check conditions along your route before leaving at www.511virginia.org, on the free mobile app, or call 511 from any phone in Virginia.
  
  
• Be aware of potential icy spots tonight and Thursday morning, particularly in western and elevated areas where temperatures may be slightly colder and in locations prone to freezing such as bridges and ramps.
  
  
• Drive for the conditions: Slow speeds significantly and give plows plenty of room.
  
  
• Continue to closely monitor weather, as forecasts can improve or worsen quickly.
