VDOT PROVIDES UPDATE ON MAIN STREET BRIDGE PROJECT
Weather permitting, new structure may open by Christmas

LYNCHBURG- Users of the Route 29 Business, Main Street, Bridge on the Altavista/Hurt line in Campbell County/Pittsylvania County are looking forward to completion of the bridge replacement slated for summer 2021. According to staff in the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Lynchburg District the project is well on the way to being finished in advance of the scheduled completion date.

In the meantime, the new bridge is slated to open to traffic prior to Christmas, weather permitting and the detour removed.

English Construction Company, Inc., prime contractor on the $16.8 million contract, and its subcontractors will continue to work in the immediate area. Even though the new bridge will be open traffic, this will still be an active work zone and motorists are urged to use caution since additional delays and temporary flagging operations are possible.

Construction of the project began in December 2018.
