FUNDING FOR LOCAL TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS APPROVED BY COMMONWEALTH TRANSPORTATION BOARD

LYNCHBURG — The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) at its June 18 meeting in Richmond adopted the Fiscal Year 2020-2025 Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP), including funding for intersection improvements on Route 221/501 in the City of Lynchburg and construction of the Route 311, Berry Hill Connector Road in Pittsylvania County.

 Eight projects will receive funding through the Commonwealth’s SMART SCALE program. Those projects are:

  • Route 29, North Amherst Highway at Route 151, Patrick Henry Highway, Amherst County - $3.3 million
  • Route 29, Wards Road at Route 699, Gladys Road, Campbell County - $3.08 million
  • Route 29, Thomas Nelson Highway at Route 6, River Road, Nelson County - $2.7 million
  • Route 58 West, South Boston Road, City of Danville - $3.45 million
  • Route 360, Mountain Road/501, Main Street, Town of Halifax - $739,000
  • Route 642, Shula Drive at Route 29, Pittsylvania County - $4.76 million
  • Route 221, Lakeside Drive/501, Lynchburg Expressway, City of Lynchburg - $38.5 million (of which $16.7 million is SMART SCALE funding to fully fund the project)
  • Rivermont and Bedford Avenue, City of Lynchburg - $485,000

The Route 311 project constructs a connector road from Route 58 to the Southern Virginia Mega Site and is fully funded at $33.457 million.  

In total, the Lynchburg District has been allocated over $343M in project funding in FY 2020 -2025.

The Lynchburg District includes the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.
