GIVE INPUT ON POTENTIAL TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS ON NEXT STUDY SEGMENT OF BATTLEFIELD BOULEVARD NEAR ROUTE 168 BYPASS
Take online survey through April 5; more information at vaprojectpipeline.org
CHESAPEAKE– Public feedback is being sought on a transportation study assessing potential operational and safety improvements for the next corridor segment of Battlefield Boulevard at the Route 168 Bypass (Chesapeake Expressway) interchange, as well as between Gainsborough Square and the intersection of Kempsville Road/Great Bridge Boulevard in Chesapeake.
The study will identify and analyze traffic operations and safety issues along this corridor, its intersections, and the Route 168 Bypass interchange, with a focus on providing congestion mitigation, as well as enhanced pedestrian, bicycle and transit access.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) invites residents and travelers to learn more about the study at VAProjectPipeline.org. Study materials on the website include a presentation and executive summary, as well as a link to the online survey that is available through Tuesday, April 5, 2022.
Community input received through this survey will help the study team further develop and refine potential improvements focused on targeting known needs, reducing community impacts, and addressing all transportation modes in a cost-effective manner. The potential improvements presented are only preliminary and are not scheduled or funded as a construction project at this time. The study partners may consider the recommendations for possible advancement through future local, regional, state and federal transportation funding programs.
This study is being conducted as part of a new program, Project Pipeline, created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Through this planning process, projects and solutions may be considered for funding through programs including Smart Scale, revenue sharing, interstate funding, and others.
Project Pipeline is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), in collaboration with VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT). The Commonwealth is partnering with the City of Chesapeake, the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization and consultant Kimley-Horn to develop targeted improvements for this next segment of the Battlefield Boulevard Project Pipeline Study that minimize impacts to the community and address priority needs in a cost-effective way. The final plan will provide a multimodal investment strategy that can be used to seek and secure funding.
