GIVE INPUT ON POTENTIAL TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS ALONG BATTLEFIELD BOULEVARD NEAR I-64 IN GREENBRIER
Take online survey through March 10; more information at vaprojectpipeline.org

CHESAPEAKE—Public feedback is being sought on a transportation study assessing potential operational and safety improvements for Battlefield Boulevard starting south of I-64, between Wal Mart Way and Gainsborough Square in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake.

The study will identify and analyze traffic operations and safety issues along this heavily traveled corridor, with a focus on providing congestion mitigation, as well as enhanced pedestrian, bicycle and transit access. This analysis includes access and traffic improvements at the Battlefield Boulevard intersections such as Wal Mart Way, Volvo Parkway, and Byron Street/Thrasher Road.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) invites residents and travelers to learn more and share feedback online at VAProjectPipeline.org. Study materials include a presentation and executive summary, as well as an online survey are available through March 10, 2022.

Community input received through this survey will help the study team further refine and finalize potential improvements. The study partners may consider the recommendations for possible advancement through future local, regional, state and federal transportation funding programs.

This study is being conducted as part of a new program, Project Pipeline, created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Through this planning process, projects and solutions may be considered for funding through programs including SMART SCALE, revenue sharing, interstate funding, and others.

Project Pipeline is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), in collaboration with VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT). The Commonwealth is partnering with the City of Chesapeake, the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization and consultant Kimley-Horn to develop targeted improvements for the Greenbrier segment of the Battlefield Boulevard Corridor Project Pipeline Study that minimize impacts to the community and address priority needs in a cost-effective way. The final plan will provide a multimodal investment strategy that can be used to seek and secure funding.
