VDOT SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT ON FUTURE OF I-264/BRAMBLETON AVENUE INTERCHANGE IN NORFOLK
Online survey now available

NORFOLK - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is studying ways to enhance safety, improve mobility and reduce congestion through a STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study in the vicinity of the I-264/Brambleton Avenue interchange in Norfolk.

The STARS studies help identify safety and operational improvements with comprehensive, innovative transportation solutions that relieve congestion bottlenecks and solve critical traffic and safety challenges throughout the commonwealth.
This study is considering improvements at the I-264/Brambleton Avenue interchange area, from the Park Avenue intersection in the north to the Kimball Terrace intersection in the south. Specifically, the main concern in this study area is congestion on the I-264 west off-ramp to Brambleton Avenue northbound in the morning peak hour that causes queues on I-264.
Some of these potential improvements include:

·         Improved traffic signal timing/operations;
·         Modification to intersection lane configurations;
·         Access Management;
·         Pedestrian/bicycle facilities; and
·         Innovative Intersections.

As a follow up to the first survey and public meeting for this study held in March 2019 to identify the needs of this corridor, VDOT created a second online survey to solicit feedback on the potential solutions developed based on the needs and existing issues identified in the first survey..

Comments regarding the study can also be submitted in writing by contacting Mr. Ray Hunt at 7511 Burbage Drive, Suffolk, VA 23435 or at alan.hunt@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference “I-264/Brambleton Interchange Study.” Written comments will be accepted through May 10, 2021.

The study is expected to be finalized as early as summer 2021.
