SERIES OF ROUTE 13 SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS PROJECTS COMPLETED AHEAD OF SCHEDULE
ACCOMACK COUNTY—A series of improvement projects on Route 13 (Lankford Highway) have been completed ahead of schedule and within budget. The series of improvements comprises three intersection locations along Lankford Highway—Temperanceville Road/Saxis Road, Chincoteague Road and Parkway.
The Route 13 improvements at Temperanceville Road/Saxis Road are designed to improve safety by lengthening turn lanes in both directions on Route 13, permanently closing access to Lankford Highway at Old Temperanceville Road and installing a traffic signal at New Temperanceville Road. Improvements on Route 13 at Chincoteague Road are designed to improve safety with installation of new curbs and reducing access points at the intersection of Lankford Highway and Chincoteague Road. The improvements at the intersection of Route 13 and Parkway included installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of Lankford Highway and Parkway and eliminating the crossover in front of Eastern Shore Community College.
The $2.41 million contract was awarded to Curtis Construction, Inc., and construction began in June 2020 with contract completion in fall 2021. The project was completed ahead of schedule on May 28.
