WINTER IS HERE: VDOT HAMPTON ROADS HAS MOBILIZED
VDOT Hampton Roads crews are ready to respond

SUFFOLK– VDOT’s budget, materials, equipment and staffing are in place and ready for this event. Crews have spent the last two days pretreating throughout the region, spreading brine along Hampton Roads interstate system and state-maintained roads. Brine increases the freezing temperature of the surface, helping to prevent ice on the road.
Motorists are advised that freezing on roadways will begin as early as 7 p.m. this evening and should be attentive to potentially hazardous driving conditions. Note that bridges and ramps could freeze sooner. VDOT will continue to monitor road surfaces as temperatures fall throughout the night. Crews will treat the roads as necessary for the duration of the event. Drivers are strongly encouraged to limit travel until conditions improve.
