ROUTE 671 REOPENS TO TRAFFIC AFTER COMPLETION OF CULVERT PROJECT

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY – The Virginia Department of Transportation has reopened Route 671 (General Thomas Highway) between the intersections of Route 734 (Handsom Road) and Route 650 (Shady Brook Trail) in Franklin following a successful double-barrel box culvert replacement.

Contractor Allan Myers completed the $777,777 project Sept. 29, on time and on budget.

The former three-pipe culvert was replaced with a new concrete double-barrel box culvert, paved shoulders and an updated guardrail system. Construction began in June 2020.
