ROUTE 621 (NORTH TIDWELLS ROAD) BRIDGE REPLACEMENT BEGINS MONDAY, AUG. 14 IN WESTMORELAND
North Tidwells Rd. will be closed for approximately five months with a posted detour

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – On Monday, Aug. 14, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Route 621 (North Tidwells Road) in Westmoreland County for approximately five months to replace a bridge over Machodoc Creek.

The project will replace the existing timber deck bridge with a new 30-foot concrete slab structure on concrete abutments and concrete piles. The existing structure, built in 1973, is approximately 17 feet long and has a posted vehicle weight limit of 14 tons for single-unit vehicles and 21 tons for tractor-trailers. Vehicles of all legal weights will be able to cross the new bridge.

During construction, drivers will be detoured approximately 4.5 miles using the following routes:

Route 621 (North Tidwells Road)

Route 650 (South Tidwells Road)

Construction activity will be underway from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Weather permitting, the bridge replacement project is expected to be complete and the road reopened to traffic in early January 2024.

Message boards will be posted in advance to notify motorists about the upcoming project.

According to a recent VDOT traffic count, approximately 130 vehicles travel this portion of North Tidwells Road daily.
