RESURFACING BEGINS NEXT WEEK IN SPOTSYLVANIA
Milling and paving will be underway for several weeks on Harrison Road, Leavells Road and Smith Station Road to smooth the ride and freshen lane markings

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Travelers will encounter brief delays, temporary rough pavement, and temporary lane markings on several secondary roads in Spotsylvania County during March while resurfacing is underway.

Mobile lane closures will be scheduled along the following routes during upcoming milling, paving and lane marking work:

  • Route 620 (Harrison Road), between Route 639 (Salem Church Road/Leavells Road) and Route 627 (Gordon Road)
  • Route 639 (Leavells Road), between Route 208 (Courthouse Road) and Route 628 (Spotsylvania Parkway/Smith Station Road)
  • Route 628 (Smith Station Road), between Spotsylvania Parkway and Route 608 (Massaponax Church Road)

With work planned near multiple schools, lane closures will be scheduled to avoid school arrival and dismissal times. During other daytime hours, and overnight, motorists may encounter mobile construction crews and single lane closures, with one-way, alternating traffic directed by flagging crews, as needed.

Work will begin on Monday, Feb. 28, and is anticipated to require several weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Additionally, new vehicle detection traffic signal equipment will be installed at the Harrison Road intersections on the evenings of Friday, March 4, and Saturday, March 5 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

Scheduled lane closures for the week ahead will be shared each Friday through Hot Spots, the VDOT Fredericksburg District lane closure report. Real-time lane closure and work zone information can also be found on 511Virginia.
