UPDATE (7:49 a.m.) -- Two southbound lanes of Interstate 95 have reopened at mile marker 115 in Caroline County, at the scene of an earlier crash. The detour at exit 118 (Thornburg) has been lifted. A single lane of I-95 southbound remains closed. Check 511virginia.org for real-time updates.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Interstate 95 southbound is closed at mile marker 115 in Caroline County for a crash involving a box truck and a tractor-trailer carrying watermelon.

I-95 southbound traffic is being diverted at exit 118 (Thornburg) to Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), where travelers can access Route 1 southbound to detour around the incident, and re-enter the interstate south of the crash.

Southbound traffic stopped between exit 118 (Thornburg) and the crash scene at mile marker 115 is being guided to navigate past the crash scene using the interstate shoulder, guided by law enforcement at the scene.

The tractor-trailer was carrying watermelon, which has created a large debris field.

For real-time updates on lane closures for this incident, check 511Virginia.
