FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT: FREEZING RAIN MAY AFFECT TRAVEL THIS MORNING
Avoid travel as VDOT crews continue to monitor roads for icy conditions, especially in northern and western areas
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are circulating on Fredericksburg area roads, in trucks loaded with treatment materials, prepared to treat for any icing that may develop from rain transitioning to freezing rain this morning.
Heavy rain is currently falling in the Fredericksburg area, and freezing rain remains in the forecast. Any transition this morning to freezing rain may quickly create slick, hazardous conditions on roads. Freezing rain is mostly likely in the northern and western areas, closest to the Northern Virginia and Culpeper regions. Bridges, overpasses and ramps freeze first, due to lower surface temperatures.
Avoid travel in affected areas. Before starting a trip, check 511Virginia.org or the 511Virginia mobile app to view road conditions along your entire route. North and west of the Fredericksburg area, road conditions may be more severe due to frozen precipitation.
