FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT: ROAD PRETREATMENT UNDERWAY TODAY ON I-95, PRIMARY ROADS
Crews will apply a salt brine solution to reduce icing risk on main routes with a potential for snow Thursday in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are pretreating Interstate 95 and primary routes in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula today with a potential for snow on Thursday.
Drivers are urged to stay alert for these slow-moving, mobile operations today. Slower travel speeds, around 35 mph, are required to spray the salt brine solution onto the road with precision, and to ensure an adequate amount is absorbed in the pavement.
The brine helps prevent ice from bonding to the pavement during winter weather, which can reduce the risk of hazardous travel conditions and assists crews with snow and ice removal.
On I-95, crews will have a mobile pretreatment operation underway after 9 a.m. between exit 98 (Route 30) and exit 150 (Joplin Road).
VDOT crews are monitoring weather forecasts and shifting road treatment materials and equipment into position. Additional information on any emergency mobilization plans and inclement weather will be announced later today. Motorists should plan to monitor news and weather forecasts closely, and adjust plans as needed to avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather. Travel is always hazardous when ice and snow are present on the road.
