EXPECT OVERNIGHT DELAYS FOR IMPROVE 95 WORK AHEAD OF MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
Intermittent, full traffic stops planned in the Fredericksburg area starting tonight, May 23 through early Thursday, May 26

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) advises overnight travelers to expect delays on Interstate 95 with intermittent, full traffic stops planned this week in the Fredericksburg area ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.

The 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project team has scheduled lane closures and full stops on I-95 in Stafford County as construction progresses on a new flyover bridge at Quantico and a new American Legion Road overpass.

Motorists can check 511Virginia.org before starting their trip to find real-time updates on work zones and traffic conditions.

Weather permitting, I-95 northbound will be reduced to one lane near exit 148 (Quantico) at 10 p.m. followed by intermittent stops between midnight and 3 a.m. starting tonight, May 23 through early Thursday, May 26.

On early Thursday, May 26, crews will also stop all I-95 southbound traffic intermittently near the exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) interchange between midnight and 3 a.m.

Each traffic stop may last up 30 minutes at a time. In between each stop, congestion will be allowed to clear before the next full traffic stop.

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
