WEIGHT LIMIT POSTING REMOVED FROM ROUTE 17 BRIDGE OVER CSX RAILROAD IN SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY
Structure repaired to carry all vehicle traffic, including heavier emergency response vehicles

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has removed the weight limit posting on the Route 17 (Mills Drive) bridge over the CSX railroad tracks in Spotsylvania County after repairs.

The bridge over CSX railroad tracks is located between Massaponax Church Road and Benchmark Road.

Vehicles of all legal weights, including heavier emergency response vehicles can now cross the bridge.

Crews will continue work to repair the bridge beam ends, which will extend the life of the structure and ensure it remains unposted to carry all vehicle traffic.

The nearly $2 million project will improve the bridge’s condition and remove its structurally deficient status. Structurally deficient does not mean a bridge is unsafe for travel, but it is an indicator that a bridge needs maintenance or repair work to improve its condition.

All repairs at the Route 17 bridge are expected to be complete in late October 2021.
