VDOT INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT ON STUDY CONCEPTS OF ROUTE 1 IN SPOTSYLVANIA
Take an online survey to provide feedback on proposed concepts to promote safety, reduce congestion on Route 1 between Commonwealth Drive and Caroline County line
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) invites the public to participate in a virtual/online public meeting and comment opportunity to share their feedback on proposed concepts to promote safety and reduce congestion on Route 1 in Spotsylvania County.
In partnership with the county, VDOT is developing an arterial management plan for approximately eight miles of Route 1 located south of the Cosner’s Corner area, between Commonwealth Drive and Caroline County.
The plan identifies future potential transportation projects along Route 1 to enhance safety and capacity, while balancing the need for economic development and access management.
Over the past year, the study team analyzed the past five years of crash data, reviewed traffic data and existing traffic signal timing, looked at planned or possible future economic development, and investigated appropriate growth rates for future traffic volumes.
The study does not set construction dates for any improvements. Instead, the study is intended to result in proposed improvements that localities can choose to pursue for funding in the future.
A virtual/online public meeting to share draft concepts is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2021.
Draft concepts are currently posted on the project page, along with information on how to access and participate in the virtual public meeting, at https://www.virginiadot.org/Route1Spotsylvania.
An online survey is also available on the project website.
Comments will be accepted through June 17, 2021.
For individuals who prefer to share comments in writing or by email, comments may be sent to Linda LaSut, VDOT Project Manager, 87 Deacon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405, or emailed to fred.comments@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference “Route 1 Corridor Study” in the email subject line.
