FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) invites the public to participate in a virtual/online public meeting and comment opportunity to share their feedback on proposed concepts to promote safety and reduce congestion on Route 17/Route 360 in the Tappahannock area.

In partnership with the Town of Tappahannock, Essex County and other local stakeholders, VDOT is conducting a planning study of the Route 17 and Route 360 corridor.

After gathering public comment during spring 2021 on traveler experiences in this corridor, the study team is presenting draft recommendations for improvements. The study does not set construction dates for any improvements. Instead, the study is intended to result in proposed improvements that localities can choose to pursue for funding in the future.

A virtual/online public meeting to share draft concepts is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14.

An online survey is also available through November 5, 2021.

Study Background

This study is examining safety issues for motorists and pedestrians, and for other travel modes such as bicyclists and bus riders. It is also analyzing traffic congestion and access spacing issues.

This study is part of VDOT’s Strategically Targeted and Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program. Through the program, VDOT planners and engineers work with local planners and stakeholders to address critical safety and traffic congestion challenges at key locations throughout Virginia.
