ROUTE 3 LONG-TERM LANE CLOSURE STARTS TOMORROW NIGHT IN STAFFORD COUNTY
Westbound lane will close for bridge repairs for 24 hours a day for a week then reopen and close again for approximately five months

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the right westbound lane on Route 3 at the bridge over the CSX railroad in Stafford County for repairs starting Wednesday night, June 16 for 24 hours a day.

The bridge over CSX railroad tracks is located between Cool Springs Road and Chatham Heights Road.

Starting at 10 p.m. tomorrow night, crews will close the right westbound lane for 24 hours a day for a week for various preliminary activities, including staging materials and equipment.

Weather permitting, the westbound lane on Route 3 will reopen on Thursday, June 24.

In coordination with CSX, crews will return next month, July 2021, to close the right Route 3 westbound lane again for 24 hours a day to safely repair the bridge.

The westbound lane will remain closed for approximately five months to complete the work.

The long-term lane closure will expedite repairs and minimize the impact to motorists.

The left westbound lane on Route 3 will remain open throughout the bridge repair project.

Updated work schedules will be shared through VDOT’s Fredericksburg District Twitter account and Fredericksburg District Facebook page. It will also be included in the weekly lane closure list, Hot Spots, which is posted to VDOT’s Travel Center page.
