FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT: VDOT READY FOR WINTER WEATHER
Drivers are asked to be prepared to adjust travel if necessary Thursday; VDOT crews will mobilize at midnight ahead of AM rush

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will mobilize in emergency response at midnight in Fredericksburg District to respond to any slick or snow-covered road conditions that may develop from light snow forecast to begin ahead of tomorrow’s morning commute.

Motorists are advised to be alert for potentially slick, icy road conditions Thursday morning. Be prepared to adjust travel plans, if necessary.

Plan to allow extra travel time, reduce your speed, wear your seat belt, and increase following distance between vehicles. Use additional caution while traveling on bridges, ramps and overpasses, which freeze first due to lower surface temperatures.

Crews will be ready to apply sand and salt, and plow snow or slush that accumulates in the travel lanes. VDOT has around 1,200 trucks available for snow removal operations districtwide.

VDOT treats and plows roads carrying the heaviest traffic first, beginning with interstates and primary roads, and key secondary roads that connect public safety facilities and employment centers.
