FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT: USE CAUTION, WITH LIGHT SNOW FALLING
Road conditions in the Middle Peninsula are in minor condition, and crews are treating roads with sand and salt to improve traction and reduce icing
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Travelers should use additional caution this morning on roads in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, where light snow is falling at many locations, including along the Interstate 95 corridor.
Road conditions are updated at 511virginia.org. Before starting a trip, motorists are encouraged to check the site to see real-time conditions along their route.
VDOT crews mobilized at midnight in Fredericksburg District, and are treating roads with sand and salt where needed to improve motorist traction and reduce icing.
Light snow and dropping temperatures have created slick road conditions in Essex, King and Queen, King William, Mathews, Middlesex and Gloucester counties, with roads in minor condition. Minor road conditions are also currently reported in portions of King George County, in the Northern Neck.
Drivers are urged to use caution and allow extra time if traveling this morning, and slow down. Even in light snow, roads may quickly become slick. Areas with colder surface temperatures, such as bridges, ramps and overpasses, can freeze first. Even on roads with clear, wet pavement, a transparent layer of black ice may be present.
