FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation is advising overnight travelers on Interstate 95 to anticipate delays in the Fredericksburg area this week, with lane closures scheduled for several construction and maintenance projects.

Construction work to build a better ride on I-95 in the Fredericksburg area will require double lane closures and intermittent full traffic stops starting tonight, Aug. 18.

Starting at 10 p.m., I-95 northbound near exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and I-95 southbound near the exit 133 (Route 17) interchange in Stafford County will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction as construction advances on the Improve 95 projects.

In Caroline County, milling and paving operations will resume on I-95 northbound near Exit 104 (Carmel Church) interchange.

Crews will be conducting routine safety inspections of the I-95 bridges over the Matta River and the Ni River in Spotsylvania County. The bridges are located between mile markers 117-121, near Exit 118 (Thornburg).

With the assistance of Virginia State Police, crews will stop all northbound and southbound traffic intermittently starting early Thursday, Aug. 19, near the exit 133 (Route 17) and exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) interchanges.
