EXPECT DELAYS ON BUTLER ROAD IN STAFFORD COUNTY
Extended VDOT work zone with single lane closure near Winterberry Dr. is anticipated to continue through midmorning today
UPDATE (12:36 p.m.) -- All lanes of Butler Road in Stafford County are now open in the emergency drainage pipe replacement work zone near Winterberry Drive.
A single overnight lane closure will resume tonight on Butler Road as scheduled. One lane will close at 8 p.m. and will reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday. This work will repeat nightly through early Friday, Sept. 17.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution crossing the temporary road surface in the work zone area. Trucks and heavier vehicles are encouraged to use Route 3 and Route 3 Business as alternate routes if possible to reduce potential rutting in gravel.
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – An overnight Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) work zone to replace a drainage pipe on Butler Road in Stafford County has been extended, and a single lane is anticipated to remain closed through midmorning.
One lane of Butler Road remains open near the Winterberry Dr. intersection, with one-way, alternating traffic being directed through the work zone.
To avoid delays, travelers are encouraged to seek an alternate route. Updates will be posted to 511Virginia.
A water line has burst in the work zone area, extending the overnight work zone that was scheduled from 8 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Monday. VDOT had scheduled the work zone to occur overnight due to traffic volumes on Butler Road, which carries an average of 23,000 vehicles a day.
VDOT and its contractor are replacing a 48-inch drainage pipe located around 10 feet underneath Butler Road. The deteriorated pipe has created a depression in the eastbound travel lane of Butler Road. This week, crews are working to replace the pipe and restore the road.
