FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Route 632 (Mount Olive-Cohoke Road) in King William County reopened to traffic this afternoon after crews opened a new bridge over Harrison’s Creek.

The bridge replacement project was completed two months ahead of schedule, which allowed crews to remove a six-mile detour sooner than anticipated.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) project replaced a timber deck bridge with a concrete bridge that is slightly wider and has improved road shoulders. There is no vehicle weight limit posted on the new bridge. Before the replacement project, the previous bridge had a posted vehicle weight limit of 15 tons.

The project contractor was Abernathy Construction Corp.

An average of nearly 600 vehicles a day travel on Mount Olive-Cohoke Road near Harrison’s Creek.

The $1.1 million project began in January 2020 and was scheduled to be completed in September 2020.

Virginia’s State of Good Repair program funded this bridge replacement. The State of Good Repair program seeks to improve the condition of structurally deficient bridges statewide through rehabilitation or replacement.
