ROUTE 207 TRAFFIC SHIFT SET FOR NEXT WEEK
Route 207 over the Mattaponi River in Caroline County will be reduced to two travel lanes on Monday, June 8

UPDATE: Route 207 traffic shift originally scheduled for today, June 8, has been postponed to tomorrow, June 9.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Demolition of the southbound bridge on Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) over the Mattaponi River in Caroline County is nearing with an upcoming traffic shift to reduce Route 207 from four travel lanes to two.

Weather permitting, Route 207 southbound will close to traffic at the bridge on Monday, June 8 to allow crews to begin demolition and build a new bridge. At that time, Route 207 between Holly Hill Drive and Sycamore Hill Lane will be reduced to two travel lanes.

All Route 207 traffic will be shifted to cross the Mattaponi River on the northbound bridge, with one travel lane open in each direction.

Message boards will be posted this week to alert drivers to the upcoming traffic shift.

The $7.9 million project to replace the existing structure with a new concrete bridge on steel beams began in late Feb. 2020.

The new southbound bridge is expected to open in summer 2021, with all construction complete by Sept. 2021.

The project contractor is Corman Construction of Richmond, Va.
