ROUTE 1 ROAD SHOULDER, DRAINAGE WORK BEGINS IN STAFFORD COUNTY
Over the next two weeks, motorists should be alert for mobile, daytime single lane closures on Route 1 between Eskimo Hill Road and Prince William County line
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Starting next week, Route 1 travelers should be alert for mobile, daytime lane closures in Stafford County from the Eskimo Hill Road intersection area to the Prince William County line.
Over the next two weeks, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will be cleaning roadside shoulders and ditches to improve drainage along Route 1 in Stafford. Fresh shoulder stone will also be added.
The intensive maintenance effort will begin on Monday, May 11 near the Eskimo Hill Road intersection and proceed north along Route 1.
When crews reach the Prince William County line, work will continue along Route 1 southbound toward Eskimo Hill Road.
Work will be underway Mondays through Thursdays, 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The work zone will be mobile and will require a right lane closure.
Crews will use equipment to remove debris, leaves and other material from the roadside. The operation will keep ditches open so water can drain away from the travel lanes during heavy rain.
This process requires coordination between several pieces of large construction equipment, including a force feed loader, a motorgrader and a dump truck. This coordination allows the work zone to stay mobile. Staying on the move helps to accomplish the work faster, which reduces delays for travelers.
