FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – To improve traffic flow and enhance safety, a new traffic restriction will be installed this fall on northbound Route 614 (Potomac Drive) in King George County at the Gate B entrance to the Naval Support Activity South Potomac (NSASP) at Dahlgren.

Under a permit from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the Naval Support Activity South Potomac will install signs and a swing arm to restrict northbound Potomac Drive traffic from traveling onto Bennion Road during the base’s core operating hours.

The swing arm will be deployed to prohibit traffic from northbound Potomac Drive from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays.

Motorists can continue to turn right from Bennion Road onto southbound Potomac Drive at all times. Potomac Drive will also be accessible at all times from Commerce Drive. Signs will be installed at the intersection of Commerce Drive and Potomac Drive to alert motorists to the weekday turn restriction hours, and will direct travelers to use Commerce Drive and Route 301 to access Bennion Road and the Gate B entrance.

NSASP officials anticipate installing signs and the swing arm between late October to mid-November 2020.

Additional notification will be made when signs and the swing arm are installed and the restriction is in effect.
