BATES TAPPED AS NEW FREDERICKSBURG RESIDENCY ENGINEER
Kyle Bates, P.E. returns to lead road maintenance and operations, land use and emergency response in Caroline, Spotsylvania and Stafford counties

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has tapped Kyle Bates, P.E. as the new resident engineer for the Fredericksburg Residency effective tomorrow, July 10.

Bates returns to lead road maintenance and operations, land use, and emergency response for more than 4,800 miles of state-maintained roads in Caroline, Spotsylvania and Stafford counties.

He will also oversee business administration, budgeting and act as the primary local government liaison for all VDOT programs in the Fredericksburg area.

In his most recent role, Bates served as VDOT’s primary transportation official for the Chesterfield Residency, which includes Amelia, Chesterfield and Powhatan counties, as Chesterfield Resident Engineer.

Bates began his career as Fredericksburg’s Assistant Residency Administrator and held the title for four years shortly after graduating from VDOT’s Core Development Program. He assisted with the management of 116 employees and an $18.5 million budget. He also worked with local government leaders to find economical ways to improve travel and enhance safety in all three counties.

Bates holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. 

Bates lives in Spotsylvania County with his wife.
