FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Route 634 (Spring Road) in Northumberland County reopened to traffic today, as construction to repair a bridge and rebuild the road is complete following Tropical Storm Michael.

Spring Road was closed to through traffic for motorist safety on Oct. 12, 2018 after storm water washed away a portion of the road over and damaged the bridge over Clarkes Millpond.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and its contractor, Abernathy Construction Corp., completed the emergency repair project ahead of its anticipated opening date in August.

The detour route was lifted this afternoon.

Spring Road carries an average 360 vehicles a day, according to a 2018 VDOT traffic count.
