Drainage pipe failure has closed road to through traffic between Route 3 (Greys Point Road) and Regent Road; Motorists should follow posted detour route

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Route 622 (Dirt Bridge Road) in Middlesex County is closed to through traffic between Route 3 (Greys Point Road) and Route 623 (Regent Road) for motorist safety after a drainage pipe failure.

Access to all residential entrances will be maintained on Dirt Bridge Road on both approaches to the road closure.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are posting signs this afternoon to guide motorists along the recommended detour route, which is approximately 3 miles:

  • Route 3 (Greys Point Road)
  • Route 624 (Syringa Road)
  • Route 623 (Regent Road)

A reopening date is not immediately available. An updated schedule to reopen the road will be announced after crews have an opportunity to fully assess damage to the pipe and road.

An average of 3,300 vehicles a day travel on Dirt Bridge Road between Route 3 and Regent Road.
