ROUTE 222 (WEEMS ROAD) IN LANCASTER COUNTY NOW OPEN TO TRAFFIC
Road reopens following emergency repair to sinkhole, damaged road
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Route 222 (Weems Road) in Lancaster County reopened to through traffic this morning after Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews completed an emergency repair.
Weems Road was closed to through traffic on Dec. 4, 2018, between Gaskins Road and Christ Church Road after a sinkhole formed in the roadway. Crews replaced a failed drainage pipe and reconstructed the road.
Later this year, crews will return when temperatures rise to pave the repaired section of road with asphalt and paint new lane markings.
According to a recent traffic count, approximately 1,500 vehicles a day travel Weems Road.
