REMINDER: FULL TRAFFIC STOPS ON ROUTE 17 NORTHBOUND TONIGHT IN STAFFORD
Expect intermittent full traffic stops between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. Friday, June 7

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Travelers on Route 17 in Stafford County can expect delays tonight near the Interstate 95 interchange as crews continue to perform work associated with placing concrete beams for new I-95 overpasses.

Overnight lane closures, with brief traffic stops on Route 17 northbound, are required to allow crews to work safely over the travel lanes.

Interstate 95 southbound travelers may also experience brief delays tonight with a single lane closure near Exit 133/Falmouth.

Since Monday, June 3, crews have lifted eight concrete beams into place for the new I-95 overpasses spanning Route 17, which are being built as part of the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

Weather permitting, motorists can expect lane closures at the following times tonight into early Friday, June 7:

Route 17 Northbound at the I-95 Overpasses

  • 9 p.m. – Single lane closure
  • 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. – Intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes; Congestion will be cleared in between each beam placement.

I-95 Northbound Exit Ramp to Exit 133B/Warrenton

  • 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. – Intermittent exit ramp closures up to 30 minutes. Travelers should use Exit 130/Route 3 or Exit 136/Centreport Parkway as alternate exit during closures.

Interstate 95 Southbound at Exit 133

  • 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. – Single lane closure

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control in the work zone.

Alternate Routes
