OVERNIGHT ROAD WORK ON I-95 NEAR FREDERICKSBURG
Expect lane closures and possible delays on I-95 starting tonight, Aug. 19

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has scheduled overnight road work for paving and bridge inspections this week on Interstate 95.

Overnight travelers should anticipate delays on I-95 southbound with double lane and ramp closures starting Wednesday evening, Aug. 21 near the Exit 136/Centreport Parkway interchange in Stafford County for paving.

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control near the work zone.  Message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for possible delays. 

Weather permitting, the following lane closures are scheduled: 

I-95 Northbound  

Exit 126/Spotsylvania

  • Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

Expect alternating single lane closures on I-95 northbound between mile markers 124 – 128, which is near the Exit 126/Spotsylvania interchange, for bridge inspections. Crews will be conducting a routine safety inspection of the Route 17 (Mills Drive) overpass and Route 620 (Harrison Road) overpass. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. 

Exit 136/Centreport Parkway

  • Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. 

Drivers should anticipate a mobile operation with single lane closures on I-95 northbound between mile markers 135 – 137, near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway for paving work. All I-95 northbound lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning. 

Exit 136/Centreport Parkway to Exit 140/Courthouse Road

  • Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. 

Drivers can expect a single left lane closure overnight on I-95 northbound between Exit 136/Centreport Parkway and Exit 140/Courthouse Road. Crews will be building construction entrances to the median for the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. All lanes will open by 4:30 a.m. except on Saturday, when all lanes reopen at 5 a.m. 

I-95 Southbound  

Exit 136/Centreport Parkway 

  • Wednesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. 

Crews will continue milling and paving I-95 southbound between mile markers 137 – 135 near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. One lane will be closed in the work zone at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. each night. Motorists should be alert for a temporary, rough travel surface in milled areas. The I-95 southbound on- and off-ramps to Centreport Parkway will also be closed. Drivers should access I-95 southbound at Exit 140/Courthouse Road or Exit 133/Falmouth.  All I-95 southbound lanes and ramps will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.

 Exit 126/Spotsylvania 

  • Wednesday – Thursday, 9:30 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9:30 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. 

Expect alternating single lane closures on I-95 southbound between mile markers 128 – 124, near Exit 126/Spotsylvania, for bridge inspections. Crews will be conducting a routine safety inspection of the Route 17 (Mills Drive) overpass and Route 620 (Harrison Road) overpass.
