I-95 WORK ZONES THIS WEEK NEAR FREDERICKSBURG AND NEW ON-RAMP OPENS WEDNESDAY AT EXIT 118 IN THORNBURG
Expect single lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound for Improve95 projects on Monday, April 29 through early Saturday, May 4

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Interstate 95 travelers should anticipate daytime and overnight work zones on I-95 northbound and southbound this week in the Fredericksburg area for construction activities underway for Improve95 projects.

Weather permitting, the following lane closures are scheduled starting today, Monday, April 29, through early Saturday, May 4: 

I-95 Northbound and Southbound 

Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) 

  • Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. 

Expect alternating single lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound between Exit 148 (Quantico) in Prince William County and Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) in Stafford County at various locations for geotechnical boring work and utility marking for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. 

I-95 Northbound 

Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) Spotsylvania County 

  • Monday – Tuesday, 9:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. 

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound at the Exit 118 interchange to allow crews to install guardrail along the median as part of the overpass replacement and interchange improvement project.   

Exit 118 New On-Ramp OPENS 

Starting Wednesday, May 1 , after the morning rush hour, traffic entering I-95 northbound at Exit 118 will be shifted to a new on-ramp. Drivers will also experience a temporary traffic pattern to enter I-95 northbound from Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) with the ramp opening.

Eastbound Mudd Tavern Road traffic will have a dedicated right turn lane to go under the bridge to enter I-95 northbound in an off-set diamond interchange. 

Westbound Mudd Tavern Road traffic will turn left onto Mallard Road and go under the bridge to merge onto I-95 northbound. 

A new traffic signal to control traffic entering I-95 northbound at the Mallard Road, Mudd Tavern Road and Dominion Raceway Avenue intersection will be activated at a later date. 

Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) in Stafford County 

  • Monday – Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. 

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound near Exit 133, just north of the Rappahannock River bridge. Expect heavy truck traffic between mile marker 132 and mile marker 134. Be alert to trucks slowing down to enter or exit the median at various construction entrances throughout the work zone. The work zone is needed for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing. 

I-95 Southbound 

Near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg) 

  •  Sunday − Monday, 12 a.m. – 10 a.m.
  •  Monday   – Thursday,  9  p.m. – 10 a.m. 
  •  Thursday  –  Friday,  9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
  •  Friday – Saturday , 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. 

Expect alternating single lane closures on I-95 southbound from mile marker 135, just south of Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford County to Exit 130 (Route 3) in Fredericksburg for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing. 

Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) Spotsylvania County 

  • Wednesday – Thursday, 9:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. 

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound at the Exit 118 interchange to allow crews to install guardrail along the median as part of the overpass replacement and interchange improvement project.
