FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will have a mobile operation on Interstate 95 southbound to repair potholes tomorrow, Jan. 26.
Drivers should anticipate alternating single lane closures on I-95 southbound during the day starting at 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and be alert to crews and equipment within the mobile operation.
Crews will start at the Prince William County line and move south to Exit 110/Ladysmith in Caroline County, patching potholes identified earlier in the week.
Delays are possible near the portable work zone.
Crews will monitor traffic conditions. If heavy congestion occurs, the work will stop.
Weather conditions are favorable tomorrow with warmer temperatures to repair the pavement as recent snow storms have made it ideal for potholes to emerge. Potholes form when moisture seeps into the pavement, freezes, expands and thaws. This cycle weakens the pavement and the weight of traffic causes it to loosen. Over time, the pavement begins to crumble.
To report a pothole, you can call VDOT’s Customer Service Center, which is open 24 hours a day at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623), or online at https://my.vdot.virginia.gov/.
(END)
VDOT’s 14-county Fredericksburg District includes the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford in the Fredericksburg area; Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster and Westmoreland counties in the Northern Neck; Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, King William, Mathews and Middlesex counties in the Middle Peninsula.
