FERRY ROAD INTERSECTION PROJECT NEARING COMPLETION
New and extended turn lanes at Rt. 606 (Ferry Road) and Rt. 3 Business in Stafford County will open by the end of 2019, six months ahead of schedule
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Construction to improve the Route 3 Business (Kings Highway) and Route 606 (Ferry Road) intersection in Stafford County is nearly complete, with all new turn lanes scheduled to open to traffic by the end of 2019.
Currently, an extended right turn lane from Route 3 Business westbound to Ferry Road is open to traffic. Crews have also finished building dual left turn lanes on Ferry Road between the CSX rail crossing and the Route 3 Business intersection. Both left turn lanes will open to traffic by the end of 2019, when new traffic signal equipment is installed.
When construction is complete, a new entrance to George Washington’s boyhood home at Ferry Farm will also open. At that time, a new left turn lane on Route 3 Business westbound into Ferry Farm will open, along with a right turn lane on Route 3 Business eastbound into Ferry Farm.
View the final traffic pattern here.
The existing traffic signals are temporary, and cannot safely accommodate the future traffic pattern. The upgraded traffic signal equipment will be installed and operational in late 2019. All turn lanes at the intersection will open at that time.
The $5.1 million project began in March 2019 and is expected to be completed six months ahead of schedule. The original estimated completion date was June 2020.
