EXPECT OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES ON I-95 NEAR FREDERICKSBURG
Expect double lane closures on I-95, and on- and off-ramp closures, for paving starting tonight, Aug. 5
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Overnight travelers should anticipate delays this week on Interstate 95 in the Fredericksburg area with double lane closures as paving continues on the interstate.
Starting tonight, Aug. 5, I-95 northbound will be reduced to a single lane near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford County. Also, the I-95 on- and off-ramps to Centreport Parkway will be closed.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control near the work zone.
Message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.
Weather permitting, the following lane closures are scheduled:
I-95 Southbound
Exit 136/Centreport Parkway to Exit 133/Falmouth
- Monday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m., Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Saturday.
Drivers can expect a single left lane closure overnight on I-95 southbound between mile markers 134 – 136, which is located between Exit 136/Centreport Parkway and Exit 133/Falmouth. Crews will be installing work zone signs and building construction entrances to the median for the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project, also known as Fred Ex. All lanes will open by 10 a.m. the following morning, except on Friday, when all lanes reopen by 4:30 a.m. On Saturday, all lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Exit 136/Centreport Parkway
- Wednesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
Crews will begin milling and paving I-95 southbound between mile markers 137 – 135 near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. One lane will be closed in the work zone at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. each night. Motorists should be alert for a temporary, rough travel surface in milled areas. All I-95 southbound lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.
Exit 126/Massaponax to Exit 118/Thornburg
- Monday – Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. – 6 a.m.
Crews will be doing routine safety inspections of the bridge over the Ni River, located at mile marker 121, and the bridge over the Mattaponi River, near Exit 118/Thornburg in Spotsylvania County. Drivers should expect alternating lane closures on I-95 southbound between mile markers 122 – 120, which is south of Exit 126/Massaponax, and near the Exit 118/Thornburg interchange. Delays are possible.
I-95 Northbound
Exit 118/Thornburg to Exit 126/Massaponax
- Wednesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
Expect alternating lane closures on I-95 northbound between the Exit 118/Thornburg interchange and Exit 126/Massaponax in Spotsylvania County for bridge inspections. Crews will be inspecting the bridge over the Ni River, located at mile marker 121, and the bridge over the Mattaponi River, near Exit 118.
Exit 136/Centreport Parkway
- Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
Crews will continue paving on I-95 northbound between mile markers 135 – 137 near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. One lane will be closed in the work zone at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. each night. The I-95 on- and off-ramps to Centreport Parkway will also be closed. Drivers should access I-95 northbound at Exit 133/Falmouth or Exit 140/Courthouse Road. All I-95 northbound lanes and ramps will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.
