CHATHAM BRIDGE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC
Route 3 Business over the Rappahannock River is closed in both directions between the City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County for a gas line strike

UPDATE (10:45 a.m.): One lane of Route 3 Business has reopened in each direction on the Chatham Bridge between the City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County. The earlier gas line strike has been contained, and the area is again safe for travel. Please be alert for utility crews continuing to work at the scene.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Chatham Bridge over the Rappahannock River is closed to traffic in both directions between the City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County due to a gas line strike near the Stafford bridge approach.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Travelers already in the vicinity should follow traffic control direction at the scene.

The gas line strike occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. and was in connection with utility work underway in advance of the upcoming Chatham Bridge rehabilitation project.
