BRIEF DELAYS ON ROUTE 206 TODAY, FRIDAY IN KING GEORGE COUNTY FOR SAFETY PROJECT
Motorists can expect daytime lane closures 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. today and tomorrow on Rt. 206 (Dahlgren Road) between Rt. 301 and Potomac Dr. for shoulder widening
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Motorists can expect brief delays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. today and Friday, Oct. 18 on Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) between Route 301 and Route 614 (Potomac Drive) in King George County.
Crews are slightly widening the shoulder of Route 206 by 2 feet in each direction, and then paving the wider shoulder area. This safety enhancement gives drivers additional space to recover if their vehicle's wheels stray from the travel lanes.
Motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic on this section of Route 206. Weather permitting, this shoulder work is anticipated to take two days to complete, and is scheduled to be finished on Friday, Oct. 18.
Next week, crews will finish installing centerline rumble strips, pavement markers and lane markings on Route 218 (Caledon Road).

Project Background
A combined safety and paving project in King George began in July 2019 to deliver a smoother travel surface on several high-volume roads, and reduce the risk of crashes at spot locations by adding centerline rumble strips and widening the road shoulders.
Project improvements included enhancements to Route 3, Route 206 (Dahlgren Road), Route 218 (Caledon Road), Route 614 (Potomac Drive), Route 624 (Owens Drive) and Route 1150 (Commerce Drive). Lee Hy Paving Corp. is the contactor for this project, which has an estimated total cost of $5 million.
