RT. 647 BRIDGE IN FAUQUIER CO. OPEN TO TRAFFIC
Thumb Run structure replacement complete, new bridge allows all legal-weight vehicles

CULPEPER — The Route 647 (Crest Hill Road) bridge over Thumb Run in Fauquier County reopened to traffic today, with traffic moving on a new structure that meets current design standards and allows all legal-weight vehicles.

Fairfield-Echols LLC, of Fishersville, Va., constructed the replacement structure under a $2.8 million contract. The project was completed and the bridge opened to traffic two days before its scheduled completion date of Nov. 11.

The segment of Route 647 between Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) and Route 733 (Wilson Road) where the bridge is located carries about 800 vehicles per day according to 2019 traffic data.

More information is available on the project web page on the VDOT web site.
