RT. 15/17/29 WARRENTON SOUTHERN INTERCHANGE CONSTRUCTION BEGINS FEB. 18
Grade-separated interchange in Fauquier County will improve safety and reduce congestion

CULPEPER — Construction of a new interchange at one of the busiest intersections along Route 29 in Fauquier County will begin during the week of Feb. 18.

Under a $19.6 million contract, design-build contractor Shirley Contracting Company, LLC of Lorton will replace the signalized intersection of Route 15/17/29 Business, Route 15/17/29 and Route 880 (Lord Fairfax Road) with a grade-separated interchange utilizing two roundabouts connecting all points of travel. The project is designed to improve safety and reduce congestion.

Initial construction activities include installation of construction signs and erosion and sediment controls, vegetation clearing, earthworks and traffic shifts. Motorists should anticipate daytime shoulder closures for initial earthwork operations.

Travel lanes will remain open during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Work requiring lane closures will be performed overnight or during off-peak travel times.

Traffic will begin using the new interchange in summer 2020. Construction will be complete by winter 2020.

More information about the project can be found on VDOT’s website at www.virginiadot.org/projects/culpeper/warrentoninterchange.asp.
