HAMILTON ROAD BRIDGE PROJECT BEGINS APRIL 8
VDOT crews to rehabilitate the bridge over Hudson Creek in Louisa County

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will soon begin working to replace the superstructure of the Route 695 (Hamilton Road) bridge over Hudson Creek in Louisa County.

The project will be completed in three phases:

  1. April 8-11: Route 695 will be reduced to a single lane controlled by flagging.
  2. April 15-18: Route 695 will be closed to through traffic at the bridge. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes. The bridge will reopen to all legal weight vehicles on the afternoon of April 18.
  3. The final phase will be a one day closure of Route 695 at the bridge site to allow crews to perform finishing tasks. The exact date of the closure will be announced once it has been scheduled but will likely take place during the week of April 22.

The existing bridge, located about 0.7-mile from Route 640 (East Jack Jouett Road), was built in 1955 and is nearing a structurally deficient state.

Message boards will be in place soon to notify the public.
