Provide input on Route 23 study in Weber City area of Scott County
Information Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 25 from 5-7 p.m. at Scott County Vocational Center
BRISTOL, Va. – Public feedback is being sought on a transportation study evaluating potential operation and safety improvements for Route 23 in the Weber City area of Scott County between the Tennessee state line and the intersection of Route 58 at Wadlow Gap Highway.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has scheduled an in-person information meeting for Wednesday, May 25 from 5-7 p.m. at Scott County Vocational Center, located at 387 Broadwater Avenue in Gate City. (Should there be inclement weather or extenuating circumstances requiring the need to reschedule, the meeting will be held May 31 at the same time and location.)
VDOT encourages all interested citizens to attend the May 25 meeting at their convenience anytime between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. There will be no formal presentation.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate how traffic moves along the U.S. Route 23 corridor, address current safety issues, and identify cost-effective improvements to address deficiencies.
Community input received will help the study team further refine and finalize potential improvements. VDOT’s study partners may consider the recommendations for possible advancement through future local, regional, state and federal transportation funding programs.
The study is being conducted as part of the new Project Pipeline program, created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Through the planning process, projects and solutions may be considered for funding through programs including Smart Scale, revenue sharing, and others.
In addition to the in-person meeting, study materials are available online at https://www.publicinput.com/Route23WeberCityStudy.
